The department of Psychiatry was started in Peoples hospital in the year 2005 when we began formal teaching in psychiatry for the first batch of MBBS students. Ours was a pioneer department to commence Postgraduate training programme in Madhya Pradesh. The department runs regular out-patient and in-patient services. We provide multiple Specialty clinics like De-addiction, Geriatric psychiatry clinic, Women Mental Health clinic, Children and adolescent clinic along with Consultation liaison services and Emergency psychiatric services. In addition to medical management, psychological treatments we also provide modified electro convulsive therapy. The OPD services are available on all working days ( except sundays and government holidays) while the emergency services available round the clock. The department has 40 beds for in patient services.

Services Offered by the Department
1. OPD services: Mon-Sat (9 am to 4 pm).
2. IPD services 24*7.
3. Treatment of common mental health illnesses like Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, OCD, Stress and stress related disorders, Conversion Disorder, Sleep Disorders, Anxiety disorders, Phobias, Sexual Dysfunction.
4. Treatment of common childhood disorders for example Intellectual deficits and associated dysfunctions, Autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, Nocturnal enuresis and encopresis, childhood-onset anxiety, depression and schizophrenia.
5. Treatment of mental disorders in geriatric/ Lw population: Dementia, late onset Depression, psychosis, anxiety disorder, and bipolar disorder.
6. Treatment of substance use disorders like treatment of Alcohol/ nicotine/ opioid/ psychotropic drugs/ cannabis use disorder and addiction.
7. ECT (Electro convulsive therapy).
8. Counselling and psychotherapeutic services for various disorders.
9. All routine blood investigations with radio imaging services (CT scan head, MRI-Brain).
10. ICU support under the same roof.
11. Liaison services for all other medical illnesses under one roof.
12. Neurological reference services.
