DEPARTMENT OF Anaesthesiology

The Department of Anaesthesia PCMS &RC has been committed to imparting holistic knowledge of basic anaesthesia practice, to both undergraduates and post graduates students.The department has 10 functional OTs including an emergency OT. Post graduate training also includes training in pain management and intensive care, two very essential pillars of modern anaesthesia practice.

PG Activities – our monthly Anaesthesia PG teaching schedule is made with a block of one week as follows:

  • Faculty Lecture- once a week. (faculty conducting the lecture is moderator for the weekly activities.)
  • Seminar presentation
  • Clinical case
  • Journal reading
  • Group discussion on drugs, equipments, ECG, ABG, Capnography, X Ray, PFT
  • Log Book Assessment and progress.
  • Inter Dept Faculty /Guest faculty lecture is arranged from time to time.
  • PGs go for CTVS Observational training to BMHRC as per MOU and go on rotational posting to blood bank, pulmonary medicine and internal medicine.
  • They go on rotational OT duties as per MCI Guidelines.
  • PACU, ICU, various speciality OTs
  • Perform routine and emergency duties by rotation 24hrs, round the clock.
  • In the OT they work under supervision and independently as per their level of achievements and conduct cases. They get on the job training with good exposure to perform and conduct cases with senior faculty members.
  • PGs have time bound & strict schedule for their 3yrs of association of learning with the dept.
  • UG teaching schedule is made for the 8-9 semester ( Final prof part I) students. Lectures are held one per week as per time table issued by Dean’s office.
  • Interns- 15 days posting schedule is made with 2 days rotation to each OT, including PAC class, hands on training for BLS and CPR their assessment accordingly.
  • Dept conducts foundation course for MBBS students first prof. on BLS as per CISP guidelines since 2019 batch.

A fully functional skills lab has specially designed ‘simulation mannequins’ that are used to demonstrate the prompt identification and management of various medical emergencies.

The Department also routinely conducts ACLS & BLS lectures with hands on training for both medical and paramedical staff and interns.

Research and development has always been a core area of focus. First year residents present posters and second year resident’s present paper in state/ national conferences every year. The latest being MPISACON held in September 2021.

Residents and faculty have also completed a basic course in biomedical research conducted by ICMR in Dec 2020. Most of the faculty members have done RBCW as per NMC guidelines.

The department also has to its credit a rich library and e- library that not just houses a splendid collection of Anaesthesia books, but also more than 20 nationally and internationally acclaimed journals.

It is a matter of pride that the good work done by the department has been acknowledged and applauded by the NMC. The post graduate seat has been increased from 2 to 8 from 2021 onwards. In coming years we look forward to welcoming more students into the anaesthesia family.
