What BPT is and why the timing matters
BPT is Bachelor of Physiotherapy. Four and a half years, with a mandatory internship built into the final stretch. You come out as a registered physiotherapist qualified to assess, treat and rehabilitate patients dealing with pain, injury, paralysis, movement disorders and post-surgical recovery, without drugs, without surgery, through structured physical intervention.
The global physiotherapy market sat at $43 billion in 2023 and is heading toward $73 billion by 2030. India has roughly one physiotherapist for every 30,000 people. WHO recommends one per 10,000. That gap is not closing quickly. An ageing population, lifestyle diseases piling up, more people playing sport and a hospital sector expanding faster than its clinical workforce can keep up with, all of that is pulling in the same direction. For anyone entering physiotherapy now, the job market is not a gamble.
BPT – quick reference

| Duration | 4.5 years including internship |
| Level | Undergraduate |
| Approved By | IAP and MP Paramedical Council |

Who can apply
Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology from any recognised board. English proficiency matters here too because clinical notes, research papers and patient communication all depend on it. Minimum aggregate in PCB sits around 50%, though this varies slightly college to college.
Unlike engineering, there is no mathematics requirement. Biology stream is the natural fit.
At People’s College of Paramedical Sciences, People’s University Bhopal, admission follows IAP and MP Paramedical Council guidelines. The eligibility criteria page has the specifics. Go through it before filling the form because age cutoffs and document requirements shift year to year.
What the four and a half years actually cover
Year one and two
Anatomy, Human Physiology, Biochemistry, Movement Science, Body Mechanics, Biomechanics, Psychology, Sociology, Therapeutic Exercise Principles
Year two and three
Electrotherapy, Modality Applications, Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation, Neurological Treatment, Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physiotherapy, Exercise Therapy, Research Methodology
Year four and internship
Sports Physiotherapy, Paediatric and Developmental Rehabilitation, Geriatric Physiotherapy, Orthopaedic Physiotherapy, Community Rehabilitation, Clinical Internship across departments
The internship is the part that separates this degree from most others. It runs across orthopaedics, neurology, cardiology, paediatrics and sports medicine, with real patients and qualified supervision before you graduate. A BPT student who has completed that internship properly walks into their first job with actual clinical hours behind them. That matters to employers and it matters on the floor.
How admission works for 2026
Application goes through the university portal. Merit is evaluated on Class 12 PCB performance. Documents get verified, seats are allocated and a fee payment confirms the seat within the given deadline.
Physiotherapy seats at colleges with genuine hospital access fill early, faster than most students expect. The practical advice is to apply in the first round of the cycle rather than waiting.

What the college actually has
People’s College of Paramedical Sciences sits inside People’s University’s integrated health campus alongside the nursing college, pharmacy college and medical facilities. Clinical exposure is not sourced externally or managed through a memorandum on paper. The hospital infrastructure is there and students work in it.
The physiotherapy labs have current rehabilitation equipment students actually use during training. Health awareness camps, CME and CPDP programmes and community outreach run through the degree, putting students in public health settings before graduation. The department publishes research and runs an active institutional research policy. In a field where treatment approaches are built on current evidence, that is not a minor detail.

Where BPT graduates go
| Job Role | Work Setting | Salary Range |

| Sports Physiotherapist | Sports Teams, Academies | 4 to 8 LPA |
| Neurological Rehab Specialist | Neuro Hospitals, Rehab Centres | 4 to 7 LPA |
| Paediatric Physiotherapist | Children’s Hospitals | 3 to 6 LPA |

| International Physiotherapist | UK, UAE, Australia, Canada | 15 to 35 LPA |
Government hospitals, CGHS, ESIC and defence medical services all recruit physiotherapists with stable pay scales and structured progression.
Sports physiotherapy is picking up fast. The 2025 India Sports Industry Report put sports and fitness sector employment growth at 14% annually. IPL franchises, national academies and fitness chains are all building physiotherapy teams and the positions are real, not aspirational.
International practice is worth planning for from year one. The UK, Australia, UAE and Canada all have active pathways for Indian physiotherapists with recognised degrees. The salary gap between domestic and international practice is large enough that it changes the financial picture of the degree significantly.
MPT after BPT opens specialisation in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, neurology, sports, cardiopulmonary or paediatrics. That route also moves into teaching and research.
Should you pick this
If you want a healthcare career where you are working with patients from the internship year and building toward independent practice without a decade of postgraduate study first, BPT is one of the clearest paths available.
Before picking any BPT college, walk into the physiotherapy lab and see what equipment is there. Ask whether the internship runs across multiple clinical departments or only one. Find out whether the college has a functioning hospital it is actually connected to, not just an MoU filed somewhere.
A degree where the clinical hours are real changes what you are capable of when you start working. One where they are not does not.
