Glasgow CWG 2026: A Fortnight India Won’t Forget, and What It Means at People’s University Bhopal

Every one of us at People’s University Bhopal wants to say a big congratulations to the Indian contingent that came back from the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow with medals around their necks. Thirty-nine of them in total, 13 gold, 17 silver and 9 bronzes, the best tally the country has ever managed at a Commonwealth Games.

There’s more to that number than it looks at first. Glasgow didn’t include wrestling, badminton, table tennis, hockey or shooting this time, and those five sports alone had given India thirty of its 61 medals back at Birmingham in 2022. A bigger haul with fewer sports on the table says something real about where Indian sport is heading right now.

What’s easy to miss in a moment like this is that none of it came together in one good fortnight. Behind every medal was someone who trained for years without any guarantee that the effort would show up on a podium one day. That’s the part that doesn’t make the headlines but is really the whole story.

None of these medals happened in one good week

Boxers, athletes, weightlifters, para-athletes, competitors from parts of the country that don’t usually make national news, all standing on a podium in the same fortnight. That kind of spread across so many different sports doesn’t come from luck. It comes from years of training that nobody outside the sport was paying attention to.

And that’s a story we already know at People’s University Bhopal

Our NCC cadets, drawn from nursing, engineering, pharmacy, law and management, train with that exact same quiet consistency, and their effort sits within the wider Student Clubs culture that runs across the campus. A cadet putting in months of drill practice before a national camp, with no idea whether it will lead to a certificate or a title, is running on the same thing an athlete in Glasgow was running on for years before this fortnight. Nobody sees the work while it’s happening. People only notice it once there’s a result to point to.

That habit is why sport, discipline and academics have never really been kept apart at People’s University Bhopal. A cadet preparing for a national camp, a nursing student preparing for a clinical exam, an engineering student still up at midnight trying to fix a bug, a law student rehearsing for a moot court, they’re all drawing from the same place. Nobody sees it building. They only see it once it’s already there.

For students across People’s University Bhopal and its institutions, PCNRC, PCMS & RC, PIMR, PDA, SOPR and SORT, Glasgow isn’t only a story about medals. It’s a reminder that whatever you’re working through right now, with no certainty of how it turns out, is usually how everything visible eventually gets made.

Congratulations again to the entire Indian contingent from Glasgow. Admissions 2026-27 are open for anyone who wants to start building that same kind of discipline for themselves.
